Journal of Intimate and Public Spheres

Proposal for GCOE journal
Journal of the Intimate and Public Spheres in Asia

One of the main aims of our GCOE program, Reconstruction of the Intimate and Public Spheres in the 21st Century Asia, is to create a public space among researchers of various disciplines and locations, where we can exchange, discuss and explore the new approaches for this dynamic process. In this sense, launching a GCOE journal is the very core of our program, and we started to search for a way to do so even before planning the whole GCOE program. Fortunately, we have received many supporting comments and practical suggestions on this idea from both within and outside of the program. Kyoto University Press too has positively responded to it. Encouraged by these circumstances, we are now taking one step forward towards launching our GCOE journal with a following outline.

Outline of Journal

2.        Editorial Committee:
(1)    Editorial Committee is constituted of 5-6 members including 2-3 Overseas partners
(2)    Editorial Committee decides (a) basic policy of the journal, (b) contents of each issue, and (c) referees to each manuscript.

3.        Frequency: normally 2 issues per year from the last half of the 2009 fiscal year onwards

4.        Each issue contains all or some of the following manuscripts.
(1)    manuscripts on a particular topic relating to our GCOE program (manuscripts of special issues), mainly research papers produced in the course of GCOE activities such as GCOE symposium papers
(2)    manuscripts contributed
(3)    Book reviews
(4)    Introduction of newly published books
(5)    News and information relating to relevant academic associations

5.        Contributions:

6.        Referees
Manuscripts contributed, manuscripts of ‘special issues’, and manuscripts of ‘book reviews’ will be refereed by two or more knowledgeable scholars appointed by the editorial committee.

7.        Publication and distribution:
(1)     AJIPS is published by Kyoto University Press (KUP, Kyoto)
(2)     A part of publications is distributed commercially by KUP

8.        Editorial office is set up at Kyoto University with Fumiko Oshikawa and Kaoru Aoyama, both are GCOE members, as the executive editors.

9.        Schedule:
(1)    Preparatory Issue (Vol.0 No.0), mainly consisting of the papers presented at Kick-Off Symposium (October, 2008), will be published by March 2010. This issue is prepared by the editorial office.
