Name: Prof. Dr. Ilse Lenz
Institute: Ruhr-University Bochum

Prof. Dr. Ilse Lenz is professor at the Faculty of Social Science of the Ruhr-University Bochum (coopted at the Faculty of East Asian Studies). After high school she studied in Japan and went on to with social science and East Asian studies in Germany. Her main fields of research are globalization, gender and work, women´s movements, governance and social change in the global context, and complex social inequalities (gender, class, migration) in comparative perspec¬tive (mainly Germany and Japan). She has carried out extensive field research in East Asia (Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia).
Ilse Lenz is i.a. advisor for research programs of the Hessian Ministries of Science and Education and is coeditor of the book series ‚Gender and Society’. She was Speaker for the Section for Women’s and Gender Studies in the German Association for Sociology. She coordinates the international Marie Jahoda Guestprofessorship at the Ruhr University Bochum.
