  急速な経済成長と社会変化を経験したアジアでは、ジェンダー役割もまた変化している。その事実には誰もが同意するだろうが、どのような方向へ向かっている のかというと合意は無い。アジア女性は主婦になろうとしているのだろうか、あるいはその反対か。ヨーロッパや北米の経験では、近代において女性はまず主婦 になり、それから主婦であることをやめ始めた。しかし現在のアジアで今何が起きているのかをわたしたちは正確には知らない。アジアの近代はしばしば「圧縮 された近代」と呼ばれる。異なる段階の変化が重なりあっているという意味である。現在のアジアで起きているジェンダーの構築を理解し先行きを身通すために は、近代のみならず、グローバル化、国際移動の女性化、および政策的枠組みを視野に入れねばならないだろう。本シンポジウムでは、移民女性と主婦という二 つのタイプの女性にとりわけ注目する。彼女たちはグローバルな規模で進行している人間再生産の再編成のアジアにおける展開をそれぞれの角度から映し出して いる。
